the vegetarian mincepies have been eaten, the mulled punch drunk and there's enough used wrapping paper here to sink a battle ship (as my nan would say), or alternatively, fill the recycling sack. so, its time to think of the new year, the eve of which my other half still refuses to discuss as it's 'way off'. erm, no, darling its 3 days away now.
having had an upsetting start to december i'm looking ahead to the new year with a hopeful outlook, fingers crossed, wishing on rainbows and bales of hay, and any other superstitious symbols of good fortune you can possibly think of. i still think i'd rather avoid the bird's poo on the head though, if that's alright with you.
so, charge your glasses, sing Auld Lang Syne, and Happy New Year for 2011. x
one northern girl's observations on life's ups and downs in small town lancashire, since embarking on married life after 13 years with her other half, becoming a mum for the first time and continuing on her path as educator of the masses, friend of many (including one rambunctious miniature schnauzer), aunty to one, sister to two; trying to make sense of much and achieving a little... some days anyway.

hairs and graces
today's the day. the appointment is in only 4 hours away and whilst a little (litotes alert) nervous about the big chop, there's definite excitement creeping in too. this is not usually how I feel about a trip to the hairdressers. nope. disinterested, trip to the dentist-style lack of interest. the huge amount of snow outside on the street is making it all the more interesting a prospect today. challenge even. just hope it holds off long enough for my grand exit from the hairdressers with my new stylish do!
